The Bass (dicentrarchus labrax) there is no mistaking that fantastic slab of shimmering silver & is the fish every angler dreams of catching and I am proud to say we catch our fair share every year, as you can see by these happy anglers faces most of the fish on this page were caught 2008/9.
From May onwards till early September is the best time for this great fish ranging in size from two pound schoolies too fifteen pound plus specimens which was our largest fish last year the record stands at around nineteen pounds 9oz and our area held the record for many years and I am sure we will again.
Baits can vary from fresh mackerel our favourite for big fish to rag worm & lugworm, great for schoolies, the humble squid is probably the best all round bait, with crab baits also popular, so as you can see there diet is very varied. Lures can also be successful especially on the offshore wrecks and we can advise you on these when booking a trip.
Tackle needed 15 to 20 pound class rod multiplier or centerpin reel loaded with 20 pound mono or braid running ledger with a flowing trace of aprox four foot pennal rigged with 3.0 or 4.0 hooks.
Some of the most exciting fishing for us has been offshore fishing with lures under diving gannets and gulls once experienced never forgotten.
We can take you Bass fishing with a ninety percent chance of catching one, but what we cannot guarantee is the size you will catch, small fish on light tackle are great fun & you will certainly know when you have one hooked a big bass fighting on the end of your rod is an experience to be hold and what we are sure of is you will never forget your Bass fishing day, and if you are lucky enough to hook up with a big one your smile may last for several days and the only cure is to book another trip.
We are keen on catch and release but we understand the difficulty an angler may have releasing such a fish but as long as your bass is of legal size we will leave the final decision of releasing your fish to fight another day to you!!
